I've split it into 9 tracks - 1. Magnu This starts slightly later than the Weird release. 2. Angels of Death I've split this just before Dave starts the vocals, whereas the Weird version has a bar or so of keyboards before the vocals, it was just easier for me to do it that way. This version goes on longer than the Weird version, but as Calvert returns to the "Angels of Death" refrain just before the end I didn't see any point in trying to split "Jam" as a different track. 3. Freefall This is slightly longer than the Weird version because obviously it isn't edited & faded in. 4. Death Trap Again, slightly longer than Weird because the end isn't faded. 5. Over The Top Pt1 I've stuck with this title as I think in this case The Awakening is better known as just part of the Over The Top track. Unfortunately this track runs out of tape just as Bob says "Hey Kitchener, don't you know that". 6. Over The Top Pt2 This is the start of side 2 of the tape. Unfortunately the taper lost the remainder of Bob's rant about white feathers and barbed wire, so this track is basically a few seconds of sound with Bob saying "Goodbye Genocide" at the end. 7. Sound This is just some electronic improvisation before the next track. 8. The Golden Void This is where it starts to get interesting. This track starts in the vocals, it actually cuts right in, doesn't sound "natural" at all. The fade-in that we have on the Friends & Relations version is NOT on this tape. I wonder why not? I wonder if the taper was using a C90 and ran out of tape at the end of "Sound", turned the tape over and missed the beginning of Golden Void. Either that or the fade-in on Friends & Relations is actually an overdub. You must listen to this and tell me what you think. 9. Instrumental Now this is where it gets really interesting. This is an electronic jam that continues out of the end of Golden Void, so I just split it at a point where I thought it sounded like Golden Void was completely finished. Anyway, the big surprise is...it's the "Electronics" track from Stephe's tape!! It seems that what Stephe had there was more "genuine" than I thought. My most sincere & humble apologies!!! This track is only the first 3min 15sec of Stephe's 8min Electronics track, and it is different in quality. I am still convinced that Electronics is actually 2 tracks because there is a clear fade-out and then fade-in in the middle of it. So what I propose to do is attach Electronics on to the end of this set when I burn it to CD-R, so - 10. Electronics 8 minutes + of synth jamming from Stephe's tape, the first 3m 15s of which is the same as "9. Instrumental" but different quality, and the rest is...unidentified. Finally, you may have noticed a guy posted to yahoo saying that he has the acetate for the Sonic Assassins. I've mailed him to ask if he can confirm the tracks and maybe let me have a copy. He's based in the UK I think. I'll let you know if he replies. I am beginning to think that Stephe's tape may have originally come from this acetate, as I thought I could hear cracks and pops on it, but I can't be sure. Thanks very much for this folks, it's been fun! AL
